PWC- Higher & Degree Apprenticeships
PWC offer a range of higher apprenticeships for school leavers as an alternative to going to university as well as a Flying start degree.
Flying Start Degree
If you want to go to university but are also keen to begin your career, the Flying Start degree programmes offer the best of both worlds. The skills you’ll learn on your paid work placements are extremely transferable, which means you’ll be able to work anywhere in business. They offer 4 programmes:
- Accounting: The Accounting Flying Start programme lasts four years and can be studied at Newcastle University Business School, Henley Business School (University of Reading) or Nottingham University Business School. It will put you on track to becoming an ICAEW Chartered Accountant , you’ll complete 80% of your exams, and will be just over a year away from qualification once you graduate. You’ll have three paid work placements.
- Business: The Business Flying Start programme at Queen’s University Belfast lasts three or four years. You can join this programme alongside one of seven business related degrees. As part of the Business route, you’ll complete work experience during your summer holidays, with a Talent Academy in your first year and a Summer Internship or Work Placement in your penultimate year of university.
- Technology:Technology Degree Apprenticeship and Data Science Graduate Apprenticeships.Designed in partnership with the University of Birmingham, Queen’s University Belfast, University of Edinburgh, University of Leeds and University of St Andrews on these fully funded programmes (which means you don’t need to pay tuition fees!), you’ll gain a blend of work experience with the Tech teams during your periods of work based learning whilst studying towards a degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or Data Science and gaining the relevant apprenticeship qualification too. As a PwC apprentice from day one, you’ll be paid a salary throughout your degree programme. Throughout the apprenticeship, you’ll work on cutting-edge digital and technology client projects at PwC.

They have programmes in:
- Assurance: You will study towards a nationally recognised professional qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) or Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI). You’ll enjoy on-the-job training and coaching, alongside time out to study for your exams.You’ll get the opportunity to work with clients in a range of different industries; projects can range from calculating the value of a football player through to checking how much stock a fashion company has in their warehouse.You’ll be part of an audit team that’ll go beyond the obvious and develop real insights into a client’s markets, technology, people and management, as well as its finances.
- Tax: You will study towards a nationally recognised professional qualification relevant to the work of your team. This will either involve study with the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) or a Certificate in Finance Accounting and Business (CFAB) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).You’ll get involved from day one, talking to clients, to understand their business affairs and discuss how the tax rules apply to them.
- Deals:You’ll gain a Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (CFAB). It’s the first stage of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Chartered Accountancy qualification and it’s nationally recognised.Most of the roles in Deals are available once you are fully qualified in another team (eg after you’ve qualified in Assurance or Tax), however they do recruit School and College Leavers into the Transaction Services Team in Belfast
- Consulting:support you to study for a nationally recognised professional qualification whilst also learning the ropes by working with our internal teams. After the scheme, you’ll be taken through a promotion process which will assess your eligibility to move on to the next stage of your career. If successful, you’ll join the Management Consulting graduate programme. You’ll undertake learning in a variety of specialist areas, from Finance, Risk and Technology to Operations and People and Organisation.
Entry Requirements
112 UCAS tariff or equivalent – minimum requirements, plus a grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent) for school and college leaver roles.
