You should also send a one-page cover letter. This should basically cover: why you, why the role and why the company. Keep it punchy. If you are asked to send a CV, ensure it is just one page in length. It is important that you tailor your application to the firm that you are applying to. Ensure you read about them on their web site and understand what the role entails and what competencies they look for.

Then answer the questions with this in mind. Ensure you are 100% accurate in your spelling and grammar and you adhere to any word count. Check your form and letter and check it again particularly if you are cut and pasting things. It is very common for the wrong company name to appear in a covering letter. Be warned!

With regard your CV, there are a number of formats you could use. Here is one possibility:

  • Participation in concerts or on stage
Skills & Interests
  • List of bullets covering your skills & interests
  • For example computer skills
  • Sports prowess
  • Musical talent
  • Travelling exploits
