Ofcom. They are the independent regulator and competition authority for the UK communications industries. Their Graduate Scheme offers opportunities across a diverse range of disciplines. There is the opportunity to follow a Generalist, Finance, IT, Technologist or Spectrum Engineering pathway. You will embark on a series of intensive job placements across different business areas and move regularly between projects, sections and departments. So one week you might be involved with new policy directives; the next, monitoring television content standards. If you wish to pursue an engineering or technology career, you are likely to have a degree in mathematics, physics, engineering or similar subjects. Economists play a central role in setting Ofcom’s strategic direction, developing and applying regulatory policy, promoting competition and carrying out market investigations. An economics-based degree, particularly covering modules in microeconomics, industrial organisation, and /or regulation would therefore be ideal. If you wish to pursue an IT career, you are likely to have a degree in Computer Science or a related subject, with a keen interest in Technology. Finance careers will require you to pursue an accounting qualification. Starting salary is £27k.
