City Year UK: they are a youth social action charity which challenges 18-25 year olds to tackle educational inequality through a year of full time voluntary service. They support pupils in some of the most deprived areas of the UK. Working in a team of seven to ten teammates you will work in a single school between Monday to Thursday doing a range of hands-on tutoring and mentoring activities and supporting the teaching staff by monitoring children’s attendance, behaviour and curriculum performance. In addition – there will also be opportunities for you to run after-school clubs and social action projects, helping to bring the school and the community together as a whole. Fridays will be dedicated to your own development where you will benefit from structured training, delivered by experts across the education, business and voluntary sectors. By the end of your City Year, not only will you have gained invaluable experience of working with children in schools, you will have developed the skills of active citizenship and social entrepreneurship. The City Year experience is a chance for you to realise your aspirations, grow as a leader and make a positive impact on children’s lives.
