Are you studying engineering?
If so, congratulations! You have embarked on one of the most respected degrees there is and you have numerous career options open to you. Many engineers wish to pursue an engineering career, and will specialise in terms of mechanical, civil, chemical, electrical etc. There are many companies across multiple industries that wish to recruit you. These include those in the energy sector, utilities, construction, engineering services and consultancy, systems & technology, science, architects, transport companies and the manufacturing sector. Many are global and will involve travel and working abroad. However if you are an engineer who does not want to carve out a career in engineering – do not worry – there are many other options and you will ‘compete’ well against other graduates. In engineering and technical companies, there are a number of more commercial roles, these could be in purchasing, project management, sales or product design and these companies often have a preference for recruiting graduates with an engineering degree. Other companies with a financial predilection, such as banking, insurance, and professional services, like engineers, as you are numerate, analytical, logical and intelligent. So take a look at working in these industries. Finally, companies who have large logistical issues and take supply chain management and operations seriously will also have roles for you in these areas.
