capgemminiCap Gemini offer a work experience programme for 1 week in June or July. You need to be 15-18 years old. Work experience with Capgemini will provide you with an insider’s view of one of the world’s leading technology and consultancy companies. 

You can work alongside some of the UK’s most talented technologists and business professionals – so this is an ideal opportunity if you’re looking to pursue a career in the digital or technology industry. They also offer placements within key in-house teams such as Marketing, HR, Recruitment, Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability and Finance.

Your week may include shadowing consultants, undertaking business projects, creating presentations, carrying out research tasks, analysing data, or participating in mock interviews to help you gain an insight into real-life interview scenarios. You might also help with general day-to-day functions across our teams.

The Business Academy offers a weeks work experience for those students thinking about not going to university. It balances on-the-job experience with business skills sessions. They expect that some of the school leavers taking part in EY Business Academy will secure a place on the 2018 EY Business Apprenticeship. to be eligible to apply you must be in year 12/5th year completing 3 A levels, 5 Highers or equivalent qualifications.

EY also offer Discover programme aimed at year 11 students. This is a one-day experience that will explain the sector of professional services and its place in the world of business. To start an application to attend Discover EY – A Career in Business, you should currently be in Year 11 studying towards your GCSEs or equivalents. You will also be planning to continue your studies to complete 3 A-Levels or equivalent qualifications after you’ve completed your GCSEs.

EY also offer EY Smart Futures. which provides you an opportunity to have a great paid experience of work. A ten month programme, which starts with three weeks paid work experience in the summer.

Criteria:

  • Currently in Year 12 (England) or Fifth Year (Scotland) at school
  • Ambitious and motivated to join the world of work and have a career
  • Looking for a great paid work experience this summer that will help you secure a job after school, or a place at university
  • In receipt of free school meals, or the first in your immediate family to consider university
  • Predicted 300 UCAS points (or equivalent)
  • Have achieved a grade B or above in GCSE/a minimum of a Standard Grade 2 in Mathematics and English Language

grantthorntonGrant Thornton offers work experience for year 12 students. They offer part of the Access Accounting Programme. You will spend four days in one of their local offices to understand more about business, the way businesses work and the different types of career opportunities available. You'll gain a deeper understanding of the three main business areas of our firm (Audit, Tax and Advisory - more on them in the next section below) by taking part in insight sessions and practical exercises relating to these areas. 

To apply you need to:

  • attend a state school or college and;

  • are or have been eligible for free school meals (orattend a school that is above the regional average in terms of the number of students eligible for free school meals) or;

  • would be the first member of their immediate family to attend university.


hymans robertsonHymans Robertson is an independent consultancy offering actuarial, pensions, investment and risk advice. They programme is offered in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow. They offer a week long work experience programme for GCSE/A-Level, Scottish National 5/Higher grade (or equivalent) students.

The programme is designed to give you an insight into what Hymans does and how they do it.  Real work experience is also a feature of this programme, in an extremely supportive environment.  They are friendly, helpful and love to be asked questions!

You will also get the chance to participate in a fun group exercise to practice and improve your team working skills and they will provide you with hints and tips on how to participate successfully in a selection process.

pwcPWC is a global professional services firm. They offer a Business Insight Week for year 12 pupils interested in business and also a Big data summer camp. Both are paid work experiences and include spending an action packed week in a PwC office during your summer holiday.

The Business Insight Week would take place in your summer holidays between Years 12 and 13, with the opportunity to secure a Higher Apprenticeship with PWC once you’ve completed your A-Levels. The Big Data Summer Camp will give you an insight into the technology sector and how clients can use data better. 

PWC also offer a career open day.

You'll spend a day in one of their offices across the UK, discovering what they do and who they do it for.


rsmRSM ( formerly Baker Tilly) offers 3 month internship in areas such as audit, tax, accounting and IT. They also offer work shadowing for 1-2 weeks. You will gain hands-on experience, build a network of contacts and get advice from our expert mentors.They have 35 offices throughout the UK. You’ll need a minimum of Grade C in English Language and Maths GCSE and predicted 240 UCAS* to apply (or equivalent).
