Science Companies

  • Azko Nobel: 10-12 weeks in one of the following areas: sales, marketing, R&D, Engineering for manufacturing, HR, Infomation Technology, Purchasing, supplychain, finance
  • BASF
  • BT: 12 weeks between June and September within either Technology or Research and Innovation. Based in Ipswich.
  • Cambridge Consultants.  8 week summer internships for students studying technical degrees. They are a world-class supplier of innovative product development engineering and technology consulting. Most of their projects deliver protoype hardware or software.
  • CERN: 8-13 weeks for engineering, IT, physics or physical chemistry students
  • Clinical Science Centre: 4-8 week research experience
  • Covance. One of the largest drug development companies. They offer summer placements in their labs where you will perform degree related work. Opportunities exist in: Toxicology, animal operations, bioanalytical services, biotechnology, genetic and molecular toxicology, metabolism operations, pharmaceutical analysis, clinical operations and data managment. They have labs throughout the Uk. 
  • EAS (European Space Agency) 3-6 months
  • InventivHealthclinical. Leaders in drug development. They hire students for summer placements in medical lab technology, analytical chemistry and chemistry-biology related disciplines. They are based in Maidenhead and Kent. 
  • MBDA (stevenage): 2-3 months in high technology engineering. You need to be studying engineering, maths or physics. 
  • MRC-PHE Centre for Environment and Health: £200 per week for up to six weeks. Projects available in a range of areas including computer science, epidemiology, exposure  modelling and systematic reviews.
  • Proctor & Gamble
  • Renishaw (engineering, maths & physics preferred). 8-12 weeks. 
  • STFC (The Science & Technology Facilties Council). 4-12 weeks in labs in Oxforshire or Warrington. 
  • The John Innes Centre/Sainsbury Lab/Genome Analysis Centre (research programme). 8 weeks research training. 
  • The Wellcome Trust (range of internships available)
  • Unilver: 12 weeks on their summer placement programme. 
  • University of Oxford. The Radcliffe Department of Medicine offers a Summer Student scheme which provides 4 fully funded places to spend 8 weeks in Oxford over the summer to gain exoerience of an academic research environment. You will be able to undertake a research project. You should be about to enter the final year of your undergraduate science degree or first year of a Masters degree in the biological or medical sciences.

Pharmaceutical Companies

  • Astra Zeneca 10 week summer placement in Pharmaceutical Technogy and development. There are 3 different placements - Pharmacy, analytical chemistry and chemical engineering
  • Johnson & Johnson: 8-10 week programme.
  • GSK: 10-12 weeks in marketing, procurement, engineering, supply chain, science communications, HR or IT
  • MSD (Merck Sharp & Dohme)
