Science/Engineering/Construction: A - D

  • AECOM – up to 8 weeks in the summer. Potential to be sponsored for remainder of degree.
  • Amec Foster Wheeler. They are one of the world’s leading engineering, project management and consultancy companies andoffer a 5 day Spring week. During the week, you’ll get to know the business and some of their people. You’ll experience aspects of some of projects, and there’ll be soft skills training too, along with a business case study at the end. If you make the right impression, they could well offer you a place on a longer internship. 
  • Amey. They are a diverse company designing and maintaing many of our public services. There are opportunities to pursue work experience and internships within Amey in the form of summer and year in placements. All placements, work experience and internships are managed locally at each of our contracts. You need to send them your CV. 
  • Arquiva. A leading UK communications infrastructure company enabling a vibrant digital economy. Their infrastructure and associated services enable millions of people and machines to connect wherever they are through TV, radio, mobile WiFi and the Internet of Things. Specifically they look for those studying Engineering, IT, Physics, Maths or Telecommunications related degrees, although they sometimes offer a small number of internships for those studying Project Management, Business Management, Finance & HR related degrees.
  • BASF. The worlds largest chemical company.
  • Buro Happold. Opportunity to work on live projects across different disciplines. 
  • Bloomberg. They are providers of  financial information, news and technology. 10-16 weeks with internships in software development, operations, data analysis, news, sales and research. 
  • BP. Offer a 5 day Supply & Trading discovery week. BP are one of the largest physical traders of oil and gas in the world with a huge array of assets, including refineries, ships, tanks and retail systems. IST is the market-facing component of their trading activities. The IST Discovery Week will give you an idea of the breadth of opportunity in IST.  An induction day is followed by three days of rotations, learning about specific roles within the business. On the final day, you’ll be invited to choose the kind of area that suits you and participate in a technical interview and presentation. Successful completion of the week takes you a step closer to securing your place on the 2015 Summer Internship programme. They also offer insight days and shadow days. 
  • Cambridge Consultants. 8 week summer internships for students studying technical degrees. They are a world-class supplier of innovative product development engineering and technology consulting. Most of their projects deliver protoype hardware or software.
  • CERN. Summer programmes available in Geneva. There is also an administration programme of 2-12 months for HR, finance etc
  • CH2M. The company is working on some of the most iconic, innovative and challenging infrastructure programmes in the UK including, High Speed 2, Crossrail, Thames Tideway Tunnels and the decommissioning of Dounreay, the former fast nuclear reactor research centre. They offer a global summer internship project across most of their offices across the UK. 
  • Dialog Semi conductor. 4 weeks to 3 months mostly in engineering field.  

Science/Engineering/Construction: E - H

  • Ford.12 weeks in either IT, Purchasing, Finance, Product Development, Marketing, Sales & Service, HT and manufacturing. 
  • GCHQ – Government Communications Headquarters. Part of the UK's Intelligence and security service. They offer a Cyber Insights programme that is open to Computer Science, Physics, Engineering or Maths students to gain an insight of all aspects of cyber. technology You’ll need the ability to programme in at least one language from, Java, C (including C++), Perl, JavaScript or Python. It’s an exciting, challenging and intellectually stimulating experience where you’ll add to your technical skills in a range of areas, such as ethical hacking, securing networks and testing the strengths and weaknesses of operating systems.
  • Gleeds. Global management and construction consultancy offers work placement in London.
  • Google Internships. A range on summer internships available. 
  • Google Engineering & technical Internships. A 10-week summer Trainee engineering programme for rising students who have completed the first year of their university studies. This program includes a software project, skills-based training, additional mentoring, and an emphasis on professional development.

  • IAESTEInternational internships over the summer for science, engineering, technology or architecture students.
  • Imagination Technologies. 10-12 weeks summer placements in hardware and software engineering teams.
  • JacobsOffer internships throughout the year
  • Keltbray. Winter and summer internships.
  • Laing O'RourkeThey like 1st year to apply to their summer placment programmes.  They are looking for undergraduates who are studying engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical, building services or architectural), as well as commercial management (for roles in quantity surveying and procurement), or construction management (for roles in management and planning).
  • Morgan Stanley Technology. Spring Insight in technology to gain an understanding of how the firm’s leading technologists develop and implement smart technologies. Days include interactive educational games, networking lunches, Q&A panels, talks from management and job shadowing
  • Morgan Stanley Summer Technology Analyst. 10-week Technology Summer Analyst Programs in London and a 13-week Program in Glasgow, where you will work on a live project. 
  • Mott Macdonald. They are aglobal management, engineering and devlopment consultancy. They offer 8 week summerplacement. They have 30 offices across the UK. 
  • Ramboll. Work Experience from a few weeks to several months. Typically such placemnets are given to students of engineering or related disciplines and can be taken up by students at any stage of their studies. 
  • Renishaw. 8-12 weeks.
  • Rolls Royce. 10-12 week summer internships in the following areas: Engineering, Customer Management, Commercial, Project Management, Human Resources, Purchasing, Manufacturing Leadership, Supply Chain Planning & Control and Finance.
  • Sir Robert McAlpine. 8-12 weeks with this UK building and civil engineering company. Ability to be sponsored for all academic years at c£1500 per annum.
  • Tata Steel. Summer placement of 3 months. Sponsorship then available.
  • Wellcome. 8 week summer internship in July and August. Pro rate salary of £15k. A range of opportunities in medical humanities, communications, finance, investments, science funding, strategic planning etc.
  • The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. 3 months in the summer of your first year working on scientific research projects - placements are potentially available across all the institutes’ activities. A salary of £12k pro rata is paid. You need to be reading a science subject, including medicine and dentistry.
