Insights into Construction & Engineering

Be aware that the many engineering firms require you to complete online tests. You have to pass these before they even look at your application. Its therefore critical that you practice before hand. You will greatly increase your chances of success. Obtain practice papers HERE

  • 3M. 12 month placement. Interested in those who are passionate about manufacturing and technology. 
  • ABB. (12-15 months). Aimed at engineering students. 
  • Accenture Technology Industrial Placement. Designed specifically for would-be software engineers. Lasting twelve months, it combines formal training with practical, hands-on experience in live development environments.
  • Airbus. 6-12 months in Bristol or North Wales. They recruit across a range of areas including all engineering disciplines, business, communications, HR, IT, Project Management, Procurement and Finance.  
  • Amazon. They offer 3-6 months as a software development engineer. 
  • Amec Foster Wheeler you must be in your penultimate year and on a sandwich course
  • ARCADIS (1 year). Wide range of roles encompassing engineering, science, and construction
  • ARUP(5-11 months). They take on c60 placememt students each year. 
  • Babcock; 12 months in either defence and security, marine and technology or defence systems technology
  • BAE Systems (12 months) Nationwide placements in engineering, business & finance
  • BMT Defence Services. BMT Defence Services offers whole ship design and technical support for submarines, warships and auxiliary vessels within UK and international defence. They have supported many major UK and international naval and land platform programmes and are at the cutting edge of technology and science. they are based in Bath, Fareham and Weymouth. They offer a number 12 month industrial placements in either naval engineeing or systems engineering. They require students studying mechanical, systems, maritime, software
  •  or electrical engineering. 
  • British Sugar (1 year). Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Process Engineering and science
  • Buro Happold (engineering). Will consider 12 month placements.
  • Cambridge Consultants.  full year placements for students studying technical degrees. They are a world-class supplier of innovative product development engineering and technology consulting. Most of their projects deliver protoype hardware or software. You will gain invaluable hands-on experience by working alongside staff on real projects
  • Controls & Data Services. Part of the Rolls-Royce Group. A large number of placements across engineering (mechanical, electrical, software and systems), supply chain, manufacturing, finance, planning, HR and technical services.
  • Croda. industrial placements available with this speciality chemical company.  
  • Cummins. 12 month engineering placements available. 
  • Eaton. Eaton is a power management company providing energy-efficient solutions that help customers effectively manage
  • electrical, hydraulic and mechanical power. Eaton has approximately 102,000 employees and sells products to customers in more than 175 countries. It offers a number of internships in engineering & technology, operations, technical sales, HR, finance & accounting, supply chain and IT. 3, 6 or 12 months in length.
  • GE (12 months): Available throught the UK and cover every functinal area.  
  • GL Noble Denton. (1 year). They are looking for engineers , physics or maths students. Opportunities exist software solutions, naval architecture, chemical process engineering and safety & risk. Based in Loughborough.  
  • Grontmij. Possibility of sponsorship. 
  • Jackson Civil Engineering (civil engineering or quantity Surveying students) 1 year
  • Keller. 9-15 month placements.  introduction to a range if civil engineering disciplines. 
  • Leonardo. they are the largest inward investor in the UK defence sector, the largest Italian inward investor to the UK, and one of the biggest suppliers of defence equipment to the UK MoD. They offer a range of industrial placements. 
  • Lockheed Martin. They are a leader in systems integration, working on major programmes spanning the aerospace, defence and civil sectors. They offer 12 month placements for software engineers, system engineers, support engineers, finance, business development & communications, procurement  and programme office. 
  • London Underground (TFL) through YINI Opportunities within quantity surveying, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, transport planning, project management, commercial procurement, business analysis, information management and facilities management. 
  • Lucite International (12 months). One of the largest chemical companies in the world. Chemical or process engineering placement. They are based in the North West and North East.
  • Morgan Advanced Materials. The company is a global engineering company specialising in advanced materials science and engineering of ceramics, carbon and composites, based in Windsor. They offer a 12 month programme. You will be working on specific projects that are set by senior management, exposure to multiple areas of the business and you will have the opportunity to network with people in your chosen industry.
  • Morgan Sindall (Construction, infrastructure, & design).  12 months. 
  • Mott McDonald. 12 months placements in civil engineering, mechanical, electrical and quantity surveying. . Generally looking for students with these engineering disciplines: civil structural, civil water, mechanical, systems, electrical, and building services. They are also intetrested in skills in transport, hydrogeology, geotechnics, quantity surveying, environmental engineering, sustainability, water resources and ecology. Opportunities across all 30 UK offices.
  • Precision Castparts Corp. Opportunities within engineering (mechanical, material science and industrial systems) and Business ( supply chain, manufacturing, operations, finance and HR) and IT. 
  • P&G: They offer a variety of 6-12 month placements, including a 6 month finance placement in Ireland, 1 year in Information & decision Solutions in Newcastle, and an R&D placment for a scientist/engineer.
  • MBDA. The placement is a structured programme of work experience. Wherever you join, you will make a major contribution to a project, and your professional and personal development. Available mainly in the Technical and Operations Directorates you'll be studying towards a minimum 2:2 Honours Degree in one of the following disciplines: Engineering (electrical, electronic, mechanical, systems, software, aeronautical, aerospace); Maths; Physics or similar.
  • National Instruments. They offer a 1 year engineering leadership programme. The role allows you to gain full training on many aspects of engineering and business offering technical, challenging and varied work with customers and NI teams. You need to be studying Electronic, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or related fields.They also offer a marketing inetrnship. 
  • NATS. they offer a range of industrial placements, including engineering, supply chain, business, information solutions, operational analysis, project management and analytics. The 12-month placements begin in the Summer (usually July or August). They are based at our Corporate and Technical Centre in Whiteley, Hampshire, although your departmental assignments could include visits to other key sites.
  • Network Rail They run, maintain and develop Britain’s rail tracks, signalling, bridges, tunnels, level crossings, viaducts and 17 key stations. They offer a number of 1 year industrial placements in engineering, finance, environment & sustainable developmentIt and Business Services and General Management.  You need to be studying an engineering or surveying degree to apply for the technical roles or geography or sustainability-led degree for the development role. You can apply with any subject  for the business, management and finance placements. Placements are based in Milton Keynes, York or Manchester.
  • Sellafield Ltd. (12 months). Engineering, business and science placements available. 
  • Tata Steel (3-12 months). Opportunities for electrical, mechanical or process control and automation engineers. Sponsorship of your degree also available
  • Transport For London (TFL). They offer 12 months placements for electrical and mechanical engineering students studying sandwich degrees. There is also a quantity surveying and a transport planning role. 
  • VolkerFitzpatrick (civil engineering, quantity surveying and construction) - 12 months
  • Siemens (12 months)
  • Virgin Media. 12 month intern schemes offered in engineering and field operations as well as other commercial schemes with this telecommunications company. Based in Hook.
